She is a 5 yr old mustang 1/4 horse from BLM. very calm and ride-able. She put her head in the trailer but will not step up without rearing up. please help i would like to get her to my home.
Thanks for the awnsers. i got her now and she was very stressed but calmed down in about 15 minutes.now i have time to work withher at her pace everyday. i used a friends trailer that is a 4 horse and open. mine is a small 2 horse trailer. thanks for the tips.

what i did with my horse was i would lead him up to the box and before he had put any foot on the ramp i would back him up about 4-5 paces then bring him back forward again and once again just before his foot went on the ramp i would back him up and kept doing this until he got fed up with it. Don't let him stand still when you back him up, just make him move forward straight away. After a while, he'll wonder what is going on and will be curious about going in the trailer. Then slowly introduce to him that he can put her foot on the ramp and back up, after she gets bored she will want to start walking up the ramp. Continue it for a short while and gradually walk her further up the ramp and into the trailer. When i tried this with my horse, it took about 15 minutes total. He walked straight into the trailer but i took the middle partition out so that i could turn him around in there without him panicking. He now goes in no problem and i usually give him a small treat for going in once he's settled now. It doesn't take very long at all to get them used to going in without any fuss.

My parents and I are going to look at this horse trailer this coming week and I would like to know what to look for,( we aren't the "shopping" type of people)! Anyway, the trailer is a "Valley" horse trailer, and I heard those were good brands. Its 9 years old,a slant load, 2 horse trailer and the seller is asking 2,500 for it, what do you think??????

The main thing is to check the floor and make sure it's in good condition. Also, the people will usually let you pull it and see if it pulls nice behind your vehicle. Check the tires for abnormal wear, and if you see that, look for bent axles. Bent axles are easy to hide in a trailer but seem to be fairly common.

I'm looking at a horse for sale and the only way to get him home is if I have him trailered by the seller. How much would you estimate that it would cost to have a horse trailered from 3 hours away?
I have the money I just want an estimate. The only reason I'm having him hauled is because I don't have a trailer.

I agree with Arburbula.....if your route conforms to the scheduled route of a professional transporter, you may be able to get a good deal on the cost. I would call around for pricing. Also, if you have a vehicle that is set up for towing and has the right hitch, you may be able to rent a trailer and haul the horse yourself, which may save on your cost. I've done that once or twice in the past when I didn't have a trailer, but had the vehicle and hitch.
Once the seller transported a horse I'd purchased from a couple hours away for free, because he wanted to see where the horse was going to be living anyway. It was agreed on as part of the sale.
If you are trying to figure out what is typical, then call around to area stables that offer that service, or to professional transporting services that haul horses and average out what they charge. Gas prices in your area will have an impact. My husband travels frequently and finds gas prices to be drastically different from one part of the US to another, so prices in one area will differ from those in another.

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 short bed truck with 5.9 L V8 engine. It has the basic cab with four doors. Not sure about the specifics. This may or may not help, but it has 5 leaf springs in the rear. I am looking to upgrade to a 3 horse gooseneck horse trailer with weekender package or 8' short wall living quarters. I want to check out the weight limit before buying.
Thanks for looking! Your help is much appreciated!

Your owners manual will have a spreadsheet toward the back of the book. It breaks down the weight ratings depending on cab, bed length, 2 or 4 wheel drive, engine, tranny, and axle ratio.

I'm unsure about your engine as well. I thought that the 5.9L V8 Gas motor (the 360ci) was no longer available but the 5.9L Diesel (Cummins ) is an inline 6 cyl.

If yours is the gas motor, your towing weight will be lower than if you have the diesel.

We are buying a horse but we don't have anyone that can haul it. We live in Merrill WI and need to borrow or pay someone to haul our new horse home. Any websites or phone numbers?
Thanks
I have spent a whole day in the phone book and online looking for a good hauler with no luck. The search engine is a piece of crap!

search for trailors on ask jeeves and you will see a lot of opions click on one and it will tell you.

I am turning 16 this summer and I am the only one in my family who cares for our two horses. So when they go some place they have to stay there till my parents get the time to do it. I was wondering if when I turn 16 can I pull the trailer? It is a four horse trailer and we have two horses.

If you have a valid drivers license you should be able to pull a horse or any trailer.

I want to buy a used 10 foot stock trailer to haul 2 horses, but the seller does not have a title or tags on the trailer. I live in TX. Has anybody had any experience getting a shop built trailer registered with just a bill of sale? I cannot seem to get a straight answer from the tag office and I don't want to spend money on a trailer I can't even get registered to drive on the road

Whoever you have it insured by or will have it insured by should be able to help you and will probably know your particular area best.
